On Day 56 we arrived in Santa Cruz and tried for the third time to get a visa for Paraguay. During attempt one in Quito we were told we needed copies of our criminal record and it took two days to get this. In La Paz we were told we could get it for sure in Santa Cruz. In Santa Cruz we were told we'd need to wait an extra day, and perhaps more, before we could get it.
Instead of losing one or more days (and paying $320 USD) we decided to re-route our trip through northern Argentina vs Paraguay. This new route would add some extra miles and we'd miss seeing the school that Roberta (wife) taught at in Asuncion. Our next major destination was to be Iguasu Falls which borders on Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
Just before crossing over into Argentina we had to stop and take a picture at the 10,000 mile mark on our trip.- Jay
